OAKLAND — A 69-year-old man died Thursday night after he was hit by a car while crossing a street in the city’s Grand Lake district, authorities said.
The man’s name has not yet been released. Authorities said he was an Oakland resident.
Police said that about 5:36 p.m. Thursday the man started walking from the sidewalk in the 3700 block of Grand Avenue onto the street. Police said he was outside of a crosswalk.
He was hit by a vehicle that was going southbound on Grand Avenue, and he died later at a hospital.
The woman driving the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, authorities said.
Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
Officers blocked traffic at Wildwood and Weldon avenues for at least an hour as part of the investigation.
