As your Councilmember, I am honored to work with my team to focus on the priorities identified by the thousands of Oaklanders our office engages with, including:
Housing as a human right. While we have made significant strides, pushing the envelope on truly affordable housing remains one of my top priorities. As your Councilmember, I will continue to deliver on:
- Creating more affordable housing to keep working and middle-class Oaklanders here
- Protecting Oakland’s renters from unfair rent hikes and evictions
- Providing shelter and services for unhoused Oaklanders with a path to permanent housing
- Expanding ownership opportunities for any Oaklander with a dream of buying a home
Safe, Healthy Neighborhoods. Every Oaklander deserves safe neighborhoods, fair treatment under the law, and results. To address crime and violence, I support a holistic approach including:
- Increasing neighborhood beat patrols
- Investing in culturally competent community resource officers
- Expanding violence prevention programs that address sexual exploitation, human trafficking and the root causes of violence and inequality
- Getting guns off the street
Responsible, community-empowered budgeting. As your Councilmember, I’m proud to have passed a budget that prioritizes our human needs, including:
- Affordable housing and homelessness solutions
- Job training and youth programs
- Support for local, neighborhood-serving businesses
- Public safety/crime prevention services
- Expanding violence prevention programs
- Investing in our parks, libraries, arts and culture
- Funding programs that fight blight, litter, and illegal dumping
While there is more work to be done, I want to thank the hundreds of residents whose input helped make our most recent community-centered budget possible. Read more here - Budget Highlights.
